This is an amazing site. Wonderful job with the data. I have been showing my children all the boats my paw paw built. I never thought I'd find so much information about my grandfather's work in one place. Thank you so very much. Just amazing! Kristopher Ditta grandson of Philip J. Ditta

My late uncle captained a towboat transporting barges of coal on the Monongahela, Ohio and Mississippi Rivers while working for crain brothers. My sister and I watched many towboats pass thru the locks at Rices Landing PA and have many fond memories. I have two folk art models made by my uncle years ago. Each model was made from his knowledge and memory taking between 1-2 years to complete. Each one is truly one of a kind representation. I would love to send you pictures for your enjoyment and comment. Please let me know an email address accordingly. I look forward to your response.

MV H B Stewart is named for my late father, Harry B. Stewart, who was VP of Op's for Ingram Materials, and had worked at the previous Cumberland River Sand & Gravel Co since the early '50's.

As young boys, my two brothers and I were privileged to visit this and other tow boats, including the old stern wheelers. This was always a very special treat when there were crew swaps &/or inspections on the Cumberland & Ohio Rivers. We were allowed to sit with the captain in the wheelhouse and learn about leadership, and what each crew member had to do to safely operate the boat & tow. This was helpful as an adult, as a pilot in the USAF & airlines. Thanks for a great site!

My Father was the captian of the Robert Crown for many years. I can remember being on this boat with him. I also remember riding on the Cresent City also.

I worked as a deckhand on the M/V Valley Transporter And the M/V Redbird summer of 1976 and 77. Stayed in St. Louis with my dads buddy Jim Pritchard, who was a business agent for the NMU. I remember a beautiful cook named Cindy Lou, who made the best cornbread ever! What a great education for a high school kid from Cali.....

Hi, When I was about 8 years old, we were on our trip with my parents. Up to Duluth, MN. We happened to be there at the same time as the Charles Lehman tug boat came by. My dad's name was the same name as the tug boat. And he got to talk to the captain of the tug boat at the time. And found out that they run mainly on the Ohio River. But had a special run on Mississippi at that time. My dad was proud to get to see that tug boat. We have pictures of it at home. My name is Karen M. Baldwin (Lehman) I was surprised to see the name changed. ;)
