Love your web site. I'm a ship pilot in new orleans. My father Stanley Hathorn was also a ship pilot. Before that he worked for Chotin Transportation, mostly on the Irene chotin

I have always been interested in towboats. Recently on a trip to Hannibal, MO I took some pictures of some tugs which I will send to you soon. Thank you for an interesting website. I bet there are some interesting stories that go along with these tugs. Do you know of a site that gives some history as well as pictures?

I am a lifelong admirer of Tugboats, and recently became envolved with a new wonderful man who has made a career working on Boats, recently transferring to The Mississippi River to work on a Tug Boat, after 11 years on the Ocean Rigs,Sorry still learning the correct language!lol I am interested in learning even more about this industry,so my intellegence will be stronger as when we communicate, helping him to not have to stop and exspalin everything he's saying to me.Any and all information will be greatly welcomed.Thank you in advance,God Bless you,Michelle

I worked nine summers on tow boats for Mid-America Transportation Co., Mid-South Towing Corp., and Chotin Towing. I started in the summer of 1958 on the Eleanor Gordon.
My favorite boat was the Girlee Knight. It had an internal elevator. I was on the Girlee when we hit a bridge at Helena, AK in the spring of 63. It was also the last boat that I worked on in 1967.
I worked on the Irene Chotin in the summer of 1962.
I worked on the Julia Woods in 1966.
I have many slides of boats and also some b&W photos, both interior and exterior of these MV's.
I am a retired teacher. Do you know if the old Girlee Knight built by St. Louis shipyard is still running?
