My what a great website! I am proud to say that my father has worked on the Mississippi River for over 60 years. Some of you may know him as Captian Gus Bishop. He started out as a deckhand at the age of 14 and worked his way up through the years. He still works on the Mississippi River and loves every minute of it. I know that he was captain of the American Beauty for quiet some time, but also rode pilot for the Crimson Glory, Prarie Dawn, Ginney Stone and other boats. His life has been wonderful out there. He truly loves what he does and always looks forward to going back.

In Memory Of Clinton James Esselman from Perryville Missouri - a Poem written on the Ohio River by my Dad and Seaman II - Bill Cornn "Let Me Forget" Let me forget the dark rivers rolling, the taste of wind; the lure & lift of blue shrouded banks. No longer let the wild winds singing build high in my hearts own storm; now let me quietly work, for I have engines to run. Let not my blood beat anser to the sea...The shore banks lie alone, so let them lie. Let me forget the gray banked distant hills, the echoing emptiness of ancient towns; no longer let the brown leaves falling move me to wonder for I have songs to sing.

My Dad worked for Ohio River Company for over 30 years he was a Cheif Engineer for Olmstead and other river boats. He loved the river! I only saw him 6 months out of the year and I can remember packing his bags and watching him walk across the ramp to board the tow boats for 30 days and he looked so Tall and Strong! He passed away 1997 and I just wanted to share my memory of the most amazing Man in the world. Clinton James Esselman... The Answer is Written In The Wind
